Les Caryatides de Guyancourt

“The Caryatides”, located in Guyancourt, France, and designed by Spanish architect Manuel Núñez Yanowsky, combines historical and modernist influences.

The 110-apartment complex, constructed from concrete, engages in a visual dialogue with the modernism of the Renault Technocentre, opposite. Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek caryatids, the corners are accentuated by eighteen resin Venus de Milo sculptures supporting a balcony that overlooks gardens and an esplanade. Situated outside Paris’s historical centre, the postmodern complex reflects elements of the Île-de-France region instead.
