The double helix “DNA” staircase of the He Art Museum achieves a spectacular balance between harmony and tension. Expanding gradually from the ground up, the rings connect the museum's four floors, serving as its structural and spiritual heart.
Drawing inspiration from sky wells (tian-jing) seen in traditional Southern Chinese architecture, skylight filters through the museum from a central oculus encircled by the staircase. The feature combines modern design principles with local architectural practices.
