Design Study: Yasiin Tassel Loafer

The Yasiin is a shoe for the individualist. The boldest option in our Perennials collection, subtle ornamentation furnishes the shoe, amplifying the wearer's personality.

The fundamental shape of the Yasiin is derived from its older brother: the Ito penny loafer. Like the Ito, an almond-shaped toe provides an elegant yet versatile appearance. From the side, the Yasiin retains the flowing lines of the Ito, the vamp waterfalling towards the toe, creating a sense of fluidity. A rounded tongue complements the shoe's contours, whilst a dogtail finish on the counter tightens the overall look of the heel.

By virtue of it being a tassel loafer, the Yasiin is a more extraverted shoe. The clean leather braid dives around the edge of the quarters, before slinging around the rear; the flourish complementing the tassels. Meanwhile, the apron draws the eye towards the toe box, providing punctuation.

Although the trimmings on the Yasiin are extraverted, we took considerable effort to avoid excess. For instance, we played with the idea of a braided tassel strap but ultimately abandoned it in favour of a more streamlined tassel. We liked the idea of someone breaking the rules, wearing the Yasiin in lieu of pumps to the opera (or somewhere even more adventurous).
